A New Era in Fashion: BRICS IFF Unites Global Voices for Sustainable Innovation
At the BRICS+ Fashion Summit, leaders from over 50 countries launched the BRICS International Fashion Federation (IFF), aiming to reshape the fashion economy through collaboration, sustainability, and innovation.
The recent BRICS+ Fashion Summit marked a pivotal moment in the global fashion landscape, as fashion leaders from more than 50 countries convened to establish the BRICS International Fashion Federation (IFF). This initiative represents a significant evolution in the emerging fashion economy, emphasizing international cooperation, enhanced efficiency, and sustainable practices.
The memorandum creating the BRICS IFF was signed in Moscow by influential figures, including heads of fashion weeks and CEOs from diverse fashion and textile associations, as well as leaders from educational institutions representing nations such as India, South Africa, Russia, and Indonesia, among others.
Sunil Sethi, Chairman of the Fashion Design Council of India, emphasized the urgency of this alliance, stating, "The need for such a fashionable alliance of emerging countries is long overdue. Brands, designers, and markets all face similar challenges—from supply chain disruptions to environmental issues—that are easier to solve together."
With an inclusive mission, the BRICS IFF aims to bolster a global network of fashion organizations, focusing on key objectives such as promoting local designers, advocating for eco-friendly fashion, and enhancing cultural relations. By fostering information-sharing and educational initiatives, participating countries seek to champion new technologies while preserving cultural identities and supporting traditional crafts.
The federation is committed to providing a platform for emerging talents, ensuring their creative work gains global recognition. The official communique underscores a dedication to sustainable practices and transparent methodologies designed to minimize the fashion industry's carbon footprint. Central to this mission is the concept of slow fashion, advocating for mindful consumption and production to mitigate environmental impacts.
The BRICS+ Fashion Summit, held in Moscow from October 3-5, solidified its reputation as the largest fashion gathering focused on emerging markets, with representatives from over 100 countries in attendance. This event signals a transformative shift in the fashion world, highlighting the need for a diverse and sustainable approach to design and production.
