Han Jingjing: Redefining Music and Fashion
Mentioning the name Han Jingjing, everyone might still be a little unfamiliar. We introduce this newcomer who brings visual impact to the audience in front of the screen.
Jingjing was born in Haikou. She often says that her fiery and unrestrained personality is closely related to the environment in which she was born. As a standard millennial girl, born in 2001, she seems to have a "rebellious" energy in her body and has no fear in chasing her dreams.
When she was 4 years old, she dived into learning to play the piano, inspired by her mother. She participated in various domestic piano competitions and achieved excellent results. It was widely believed that Jingjing should embark on the path of studying at a music high school, a seemingly natural choice. However, Jingjing made a brave major decision in her life: to go abroad and see a new part of the world. She made her way to the UK and, with excellent academics, seventeen-year-old Jingjing was accepted at Stanford University. Without any notice or announcements, on October 17, 2023, Jingjing released her first solo single "Monsoon (Ji Feng)" as her official debut work.
"Monsoon" is characterized by freshness, a healing tune, and Han Jingjing's soft and clear voice telling a story about saying goodbye to the past, breaking through constraints, and pursuing freedom with persistence. It also signifies that at the age of 21, with her determination, expectations, and enthusiasm, she will move into the next chapter of her growth. After releasing the adult single "Monsoon" in late autumn, she returned with her latest work, "Ignite the Blue," on December 21st. "Ignite the Blue" tells the story of a girl who fell into a dream, met a trapped dolphin, and struggled with self-doubt. Rescuing herself and finding redemption, the girl and the dolphin see the light together and are reborn. As a singer, she hopes to appeal to people and nature through this song, focusing on the symbiotic relationship between humans and animals. In addition to the remarkable content of the song, the creative team for "Ignite the Blue" is also extremely impressive. Well-known producer and R&B singer Q.Luv is responsible for the production, and the talented arranger Gold Child arranges the track. The whole song is ear-catching, and the lyrics are sincere. The deep-sea dream atmosphere created by future pop is entrancing.
Following Paris Fashion Week in February, Jingjing continued to record new songs and shoot magazines in China. She is lively and cute, bringing strength and laughter to everyone on set. During the filming scene, well-known hairstylist Liu Xueliang commented that Jingjing is absolutely a supermodel. The way she interacts with the camera is powerful. On the day of filming, Jingjing surprisingly released her third single, "The Solitude Serenade."
Jingjing’s goal this year is to create an album that is visually powerful and can bring young audiences’ attention to how music and fashion can be presented simultaneously through ears and eyes. Han Jingjing is a glowing flower that has just started to bloom. Let us wait and see what surprises this new face will bring to everyone.
How do you feel about being defined as an academic?
Being defined as a “good” student is a positive recognition, but I don’t want this definition to be the only criterion of self-worth. As for me, I want to hold a balanced perspective. Developing diverse interests and talents while continuing to learn and grow, maybe this way I can understand myself more comprehensively.
If you had not gone to study in the UK, do you think you would be different from who you are now?
I think I would be a little different! Because the domestic education system is completely different from the way foreign talents are cultivated. If I hadn’t gone to England to study, I may have embarked on the path of learning piano and then been a professional in classical music. Maybe the things I’m interested in will be related to modern times. Although the environment is very important, I think having a clear understanding and plan for yourself is still the most important of all!
Did you set any goals for yourself when you started this music path?
As far as goals are concerned, I actually didn’t say I wanted to become a world-famous top singer. I believe in destiny and I also believe that hard work can lead to success and bring luck. I just hope that I can always stay awake on this road and push myself to become an excellent and qualified singer. Bringing more good music to my fans and friends.
What do you think you would do if you were not an artist?
I think I would start a business in Silicon Valley and work hard together with my good friends!
Do you think it’s “weird” for science students to do music?
I think there is no fixed combination of life choices. The most important thing is to do what you like to do. Every subject is a service. It depends on your growth, development, and future, I think it’s more interesting not to be too conventional.
You mentioned that your goal this year is to make an album. Can you share with us the concept of the album?
This is still in preparation. I have always said that I hope my music is visual and cannot be talked about. Glad you are very much looking forward to it.
What do you think your fashion style is?
I don’t think I have a fixed fashion style. Beauty is diverse, so I might add some of my own understanding to express “cool” or "sweet". I’m still exploring more styles and I hope to digest each look into my own.
What is your favorite fashion item?
I love hats! I think hats can be the finishing touch of a look. I have hats in many colors. Recently I really like a pink hat, I think it’s cool and sweet and it puts me in a good mood for the day!
Which look do you like best for this shoot?
I love that broad-shouldered suit from Balenciaga paired with the blue hair and some heels, these elements express female power to me. The photographer allowed me to express myself freely when shooting so there were many moments that I thought were beautiful!
If you were to give this photo shoot a title, what would you write about it?
I would write "Character". I feel that I’m a different character in each shot but I’m still me in each shot as well. Every time I hope to give you some new visual experience and hope to continue to be fashionable!
