Zara, 50 years of fashion that dressed (and changed) the world

Fifty years of global fashion celebrated by Steven Meisel with 50 legendary models and a capsule collection that rewrites elegance in a contemporary key. Between disco , esprit couture and black and white, the Spanish brand tells a true manifesto.

Fifty years ago, in the same Galicia that smells of raw fabrics and the sea, Zara was born. Today, that brand that has become much more than pop is celebrating its first half century with a campaign that is anything but ordinary. Voilà , enters the visionary Steven Meisel .

The Spanish fashion house has entrusted the most iconic image couturier of the last half century with the visual story of “50 Years, 50 Icons”. The result? A black and white short film that borders on the sublime, where 50 fashion muses - from Linda Evangelista to Kaia Gerber, passing through the beloved Carla Bruni - dance to the electro-vintage notes of I Feel Love . All seasoned with that unbreakable 70s nostalgia.

The video, more than a campaign, is an authorial happening . One of those moments when advertising stops selling and starts telling. Karl Templer (styling), Pat McGrath (make-up), Guido Palau (coiffure): names that together create a real glossary of beauty. The result is an ode to timeless glamour, but with perfect timing.

But Zara doesn’t stop at the film. Like any self-respecting party, the gift arrives too: a capsule of 128 pieces in black and white, essential and never banal, inspired by the sartorial language of the tuxedo . Suits that seem to have come out of a Parisian atelier (but with the price of a lunch à deux ), satin dresses, leather pants that whisper “yes, we are cool”. All enclosed in a collection that screams accessible elegance, without ever falling into déjà vu.

The cherry on top? The T-shirt with the portraits of the 50 models. A (much desired) collector's item. Fashionistas, make a note of it: it's already a cult.

Marta Ortega Pérez , non-executive chairman of Inditex, says it clearly: “It is a testament to the enthusiasm, talent and creativity of the Zara teams.” Indeed, few brands can boast such a radical transformation: from a local shop to a ready-to-wear empire, always with the same mantra - bringing fashion to everyone, but with style.

Zara, today, not only dresses the world. She interprets it, accompanies it, sometimes anticipates it. And, at least this time, she also makes us dance.

"50 is the new 30! Happy birthday Zara! Style is an attitude, not a number!"

- Cindy Crawford
