Fashion Identity: Who we are and want to be

One thing prevails. There’s one aspect that, despite differences, unites us. Fashion Identity

“I think fashion is the strongest form of communication there is. … It’s only interesting to me if it’s subversive: that’s the only reason I’m in fashion, to destroy the word ‘conformity” Vivienne Westwood

For many, clothing is an escape from reality. It’s an alter ego that shows who they truly are or who they want to be. In some circumstances, there are boundaries that individuals are deeply afraid of breaking through. We must learn to thematize change, how to build new tools, and how to change the future.

A Zeitgeist of our era. Fear has become such a constant element in our lives that our relationships with the environment and atmosphere around us have also shaped our personalities and perspectives. It makes us question who we are and who we want to be.

Something that isn't quite left or right, black or white, has a certain beauty to it. It’s the little in-betweens that take trends and make them their own that show their interpretation of the world that truly communicate one’s body and psyche. This becomes one’s language. More often than not, people aren’t sure of who they want to be. But that’s the beauty of fashion, culture, and life. Constantly evolving, discovering your grove, and discovering your inner sense of fashion. Fashion is only as powerful as its wearer.

Fashion has been a vessel for me to express my creativity in ways that are familiar to my senses. It has a way of connecting to my inner psyche that has a sense of familiarity and belonging.

It is more than just clothing; it's an art form that can be used to communicate certain ideals that would jump out beyond classical forms of art. It comes straight and true from one’s dreams, personality, and psyche. It sounds a bit cliche, but clothing is the window to one’s mind and soul. It depicts ideas that one may not find the right words to express. In some cases, clothing serves as a safety net, a shield to shield oneself from the harsh gaze of the students around them.It can act as a shield when conforming to trends and projecting one’s true identity. To me, fashion is the most powerful language of all. It has no restrictions regarding gender, language, income, or ability. To what extent is clothing a universal language? It will always be a beautiful juxtaposition of who you are and who you want to be. Fashion in itself is a language that is universally understood, regardless of gender, cultural background, linguistics, or economic stance. Clothing will always be a quintessential ingredient in one’s self-discovery.

And at those moments, fashion will always be present; those fleeting memories and constants are the purest form of ecstasy, love, and authenticity.
