Historic Glamour: Gucci's Cosmogony Campaign
The 2023 Gucci Cruise Cosmogony campaign is an ode to Renaissance painting.
Gucci has unveiled the campaign for the Cosmogonie Cruise 2023 collection . Inspired by the fashion show that took place in May at the Castel del Monte, a 13th-century fortress built by Frederick II of Swabia near Andria, the campaign also combines elements from distant eras and geographies.
"A myriad of wonders come together in the latest campaign of the Gucci Cruise 2023 collection, shedding light on the connections between the past and the future" - Gucci
After the farewell to Alessandro Michele and in anticipation of the appointment of a new creative director, Gucci presents the Cosmogonie Cruise 2023 campaign . Meanwhile, the fashion house has announced its next runway show, which will take place on Friday 13 January at the opening of Milano Moda Uomo. This is a significant change of direction for the fashion house: it is the first all-men show from the Florentine fashion house since the beginning of the pandemic.
The spectacular runway show of Gucci's Cosmogony collection , presented last May at Castel del Monte in Puglia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was inspired by constellations. The clothes on the catwalk referred to the stars and magical myths with their details. For the occasion, the fashion house had also registered 350 stars on behalf of the guests - a decidedly unique and original invitation. The campaign, created by the renowned photographer duo Mert & Marcus, consists of a series of portraits in the style of Renaissance paintings with references to astronomy and the cosmos. Christopher Simmonds is the artistic director of the Gucci Cosmogony Cruise 2023 campaign.

The collection's designs are inspired by different historical periods: the 16th century , the Victorian era and even the 1940s . For example, in the Gucci Cosmogonie Cruise 2023 campaign, the models pose surrounded by props commemorating the works of poets, scholars, astronomers, philosophers and mathematicians who helped inspire the collection and pointing to the myriad inspirations that define the collection . The result is a universal language of encounters, stories, shapes and proportions. And from this connecting structure, the poetic harmony of the colours, silhouettes and covers emerges even more vividly.
Among the collection pieces, the campaign images feature sheer, shimmering dresses and faux fur outerwear. 16th-century ruffles, Victorian-inspired lace-up cuissardes, 1940's silhouettes and 1970's optical motifs. The Gucci Cosmogonie campaign focuses on the Gucci Aphrodite and Gucci Blondie handbags.
