Reinventing Oriental Fashion: Spotlight on Three Emerging Brands

Young brands from India, Indonesia, and the Republic of Dagestan showcased a dynamic blend of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design at Moscow Fashion Week 2024, revitalizing cultural heritage with style and innovation.

In the realm of traditional and authentic fashion, innovation and tradition collide on the runways of Fashion Week. As we explore the evolving landscape of religious couture, three standout brands are reshaping the narrative with their unique visions.

Leading the charge is Zuhat, blending timeless elegance with contemporary flair. The ZUHAT brand's collection features gentle curves, tranquil silhouettes, layering, extended lengths, and a monochromatic color scheme ranging from deep black to delicate shades of pearl and ivory. Inspired by the imagery of Dagestani women, the collection's focal point is the inclusion of maxi dresses and coordinated sets with elongated skirts. Drawing from the sight of women gracefully walking to springs with their hems tucked at the waist, the collection incorporates elements of asymmetric draping into its skirts and dresses. Completing the looks are tote bags with broad straps reminiscent of those once used to carry pitchers.

Meanwhile, IRMASARI JOEDAWINATA, an Indonasian brand, embraces pstel colors and avant-garde silhouettes, challenging norms and empowering wearers to express themselves boldly.

IRMASARI JOEDAWINATA

The brand from Indonesia, IRMASARI JOEDAWINATA, brought with it the atmosphere of a distant and misty coastline, which could be easily imagined through smooth silhouette lines and transparent materials layered upon each other. The mood of salty water and air was maintained by a delicate natural palette dominated by shades of pink chalk, gray sand, coastal stones, sea blue, and tropical greenery. The collection left a sense of freedom and lightness, despite its multi-layered nature: cocoon silhouettes enveloping the models' figures were complemented by airy scarves made of pleated silk; the same pleated silk appeared as the main texture in tops and dresses, resembling either sea foam or
a blooming garden. Long textured gloves and large accessories complemented the looks.

Completing the trio is an Indian Fashion House, Geisha Designs, known for their fusion of tradition and innovation. With a diverse range of religious attire infused with modern cuts and intricate details, they offer a fresh perspective on cultural heritage.

GEISHA DESIGNS

The new evening wear collection from the Indian brand Geisha Designs draws inspiration from the icy sparkle of crystals. The metallic radiance is brought to life through an abundance of rhinestones and sequins, while dynamic elements like fringes and ruffles create a shimmering effect with movement.
The designers skillfully blend traditional uniqueness with a modern aesthetic in this collection, with asymmetric silhouettes reminiscent of Indian saris and contemporary touches like cutouts and sheer fabrics. Alongside women's ensembles, the runway showcased men's trouser suits adorned with crystals for a touch of glamour.
